About

A Century of Symphonic Excellence

Founded in 1923, Orchestra Iowa has grown into one of the state’s leading professional symphony orchestras. For more than a century, we have brought live symphonic music to communities across eastern Iowa, enriching lives through performance, education, and artistic excellence.

Our mission is simple and enduring: to foster a love of symphonic music through exceptional performances, meaningful education programs, and active community engagement.

Each season, our 68 professional musicians present more than 180 performances, ranging from classical masterworks and chamber concerts to opera, ballet, pops, and family programming. Many performances are broadcast statewide on Iowa Public Radio and Iowa PBS, expanding access to audiences beyond the concert hall.

Under the leadership of Music Director Timothy Hankewich, who recently completed his 20th season, Orchestra Iowa continues to elevate artistic standards while deepening its connection to the communities it serves.

Today, Orchestra Iowa continues its tradition of excellence while looking ahead to new audiences, new collaborations, and new ways to share the power of live symphonic music in our community. We invite you to be part of the experience.
